The Provincial Health Board, chaired by Governor Pamela Baricuatro, is exploring solutions to address the lack of ambulance drivers in the Cebu Provincial Government’s network of 16 hospitals, which include four provincial hospitals and 12 district hospitals.

During its fourth board meeting on December 3 at the Capitol, several chiefs of hospitals informed the Governor of the persistent shortage of drivers, noting that it significantly affects the timely delivery of emergency and medical services.
According to an inventory of ambulance units, patient transport vehicles, and their corresponding drivers, the provincial hospitals have an average of five ambulance drivers each, while district hospitals have only three to four. Chiefs of hospitals—especially those in more remote municipalities—said this number is often insufficient.

They explained that when all drivers are deployed to Cebu City to transport patients to tertiary hospitals, they are left unable to respond to new emergencies due to the lack of available drivers.
Provincial Budget Officer Danilo Rodas assured them that if medical chiefs submit a special request to the Office of the Governor, they can be provided with additional drivers, as funding has already been allocated for this need. | 𝑪𝒂𝒑𝒊𝒕𝒐𝒍 𝑷𝑰𝑶
