The Cebu Coliseum erupted in cheers as Governor Pamela Baricuatro announced cash incentives for barangay health workers (BHWs) during the Cebu Province BHW Summit 2025 held on December 5. The whole-day gathering brought together more than 9,000 BHWs from across the province in a celebration dedicated to honoring their tireless service to community health.

Governor Baricuatro announced that ₱10,000 cash incentive will each be given to 100 retiring BHWs, while active BHWs will receive ₱7,000 each, along with a new set of uniforms and noche buena packs—a gesture warmly welcomed by the crowd.

The summit, organized in celebration of BHW Day, highlighted the crucial role of BHWs as the first line of healthcare in communities. Often the most accessible health providers in rural and urban barangays, BHWs are instrumental in promoting disease prevention, maternal and child health, and community-based wellness initiatives.
The event also served as a platform to advocate for improved working conditions, greater benefits, and stronger institutional support for BHWs across Cebu Province.
In her address, Governor Baricuatro extended her gratitude to the workers for their unwavering dedication. She emphasized that BHWs remain the backbone of grassroots healthcare, especially in far-flung and underserved areas where access to medical services is limited.
She also honored the courage and resilience of the BHWs, especially following the recent earthquake and the impact of typhoons Tino, Uwan, and Verbena.
“Dili mo assistant. Dili mo extra. You are partners in building a healthier Cebu,” Governor Baricuatro said. “You are the strength behind Cebu’s recovery and the hope behind our healthier future. Kuyog tang tanan, let us build a Cebu nga mas luwas, mas andam, mas lig-on, ug mas healthy para sa tanan.”
Provincial Board Member Stanley Caminero and Capitol Piso Health Consultant Dr. Elisse Nicole Catalan were also present at the event.
