The Cebu Provincial Hospital in Balamban (CPH Balamban) is set to receive a brand new anesthesia machine to be donated by Syntech Properties Inc., a property developer operating in the said midwest municipality.

The donation was confirmed during a courtesy visit to Gov. Pamela Baricuatro on Wednesday, December 3 by Janice Ngiam, director of Syntech Properties, Inc.

She was accompanied by Jesus Alao Jr., Syntech general manager; Melder Relator, marketing director; Dr. Olivia Dandan, chief of hospital of CPH Balamban; and Dr. Nikki Catalan, the Capitol’s piso health consultant.

An anesthesia machine is a medical device used during surgery to keep patients unconscious, pain-free, and breathing safely. It delivers a controlled mixture of oxygen, anesthetic gases, and other agents while preventing the patient from rebreathing harmful carbon dioxide.

The machine also includes monitors and safety systems that track vital signs such as breathing and heart rate, helping medical staff respond to any changes.

According to GM Alao, the anesthesia machine—valued at P2.5 million—is a high-quality German product and will come with after-sales support and maintenance from its supplier. The equipment is scheduled to arrive on December 11 and will be formally turned over to CPH Balamban the next day.

“Since healthcare is something we truly lack compared to other countries, and because it is also a priority of our Governor, we decided to help,” GM Alao said, noting that the contribution forms part of Syntech’s corporate social responsibility efforts.

Dr. Dandan described the donation as timely and essential. She said that the DOH-accredited Level II hospital currently has only one anesthesia machine. With plans to open three operating rooms—two for general surgery and one for OB-GYN—she said the additional machine will significantly improve service delivery.

“It will help us in our services; mas daghan na ang atong ma-cater at the same time,” Dr. Dandan said. “Patients don’t have to wait in long queues anymore kay duha na ang atong anesthesia machines.”

She said she has asked the Capitol for a third anesthesia machine, and it is still under consideration by the governor. | CAPITOL PIO
