The Cebu Provincial Government is seeking to strengthen its environmental initiatives through a potential partnership with Oceana, the world’s largest international advocacy organization dedicated solely to ocean conservation.

This development emerged following Governor Pamela Baricuatro’s meeting with officials of Oceana Philippines, led by Vice President Von Hernandez, who was joined by Atty. Lisa Osorio, Senior Director; and Atty. Rhea Yray-Frossard, Campaign and Research Director.
Hernandez described the meeting as their first engagement with the governor and an opportunity to discuss possible areas of cooperation.

“We presented our programs and explored possible ways we can collaborate with the province,” Hernandez said.
Atty. Osorio shared that the governor offered Oceana a seat in a new environmental council she plans to establish to harmonize environmental policies and set the province’s strategic direction on conservation.
Atty. Osorio also noted that they are lobbying for the governor’s support for a legislative measure pending in Congress that seeks to establish coastal greenbelts consisting of mangroves and beach forests to mitigate storm surges and coastal flooding.
Oceana leads targeted campaigns that pursue measurable results for ocean protection and restoration, combining science, legal advocacy, grassroots action, and strategic communications to advance policy reforms worldwide. /𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶
