As Talisay City reported the highest number of leptospirosis cases, the Cebu Provincial Government dispatched an additional 15,000 antibiotic capsules to prevent an outbreak.

The delivery was facilitated by Capitol Piso Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan.
The shipment was received this morning, Nov. 19, by City Health Officer Dr. Rey Cesar Bautista.

The delivery coincided with ongoing medical check-ups conducted by the city’s health personnel in barangays severely affected by heavy flooding from Typhoon Tino.
According to the Provincial Health Office (PHO), Talisay City registered eight leptospirosis cases in the first two weeks of November.
As part of Gov. Pamela Baricuatro’s multi-pronged response to prevent an outbreak, the Cebu Provincial Government is also distributing prophylactic antibiotics directly to the barangays.
Yesterday, personnel from the PHO conducted house-to-house distribution of the medication in Barangay Dumlog. A total of 5,400 capsules were distributed to 540 residents in the barangay, one of the hardest-hit villages in the city.
From Nov. 4 to Nov. 17, the PHO has distributed 57,000 capsules of antibiotics to LGUs and Capitol-run hospitals across the province.
