𝐂𝐀𝐏𝐈𝐓𝐎𝐋 𝐓𝐎 𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐓 𝐅𝐑𝐄𝐄 𝐎𝐏𝐇𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐋𝐌𝐎𝐋𝐎𝐆𝐘 𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐆𝐈𝐂𝐀𝐋 𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐈𝐍 𝐎𝐒𝐋𝐎𝐁
The Cebu Provincial Government, in partnership with its medical allies, will conduct a free Ophthalmology Surgical Mission at the Capitol-run Oslob District Hospital from November 21 to 23.
Dr. Nikki Catalan, the Capitol’s piso health consultant, said the mission is made possible through the collaboration between the Province of Cebu and the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center – Ophthalmology Department.
Pre-screening of patients began on Sunday, November 16, in Oslob for cataract and pterygium cases. Pterygium is a common eye condition characterized by a fleshy, wedge-shaped growth on the conjunctiva that may extend onto the cornea and impair vision.
Provincial Board Member Dr. Stanley Caminero, chair of the committee on public health, said initial results of the screening identified at least 50 cataract patients and 50 pterygium patients who will undergo free procedures during the three-day mission in the southern Cebu town.
“Kining mga maayong programa, lapad nga programa sa Probinsya sa Sugbo ubos sa pamunoan ni Governor Pam, sumala ug subay sa iyang saad, iyaha gyud ning gibarogan,” Board Member Caminero said.
Dr. Catalan also expressed her gratitude to the medical personnel who facilitated the pre-screening: Dr. Farida Marcelle Vergara and Dr. Erika Mae Galeos, along with Eye Center staff members Marivie Fabon, Vianney Dagandan, and Melca Ardiente.
