Gov. Pam Baricuatro Calls Emergency Meeting as Typhoon Opong Hits Northern Cebu

Gov. Pamela S. Baricuatro convened the heads of various Capitol departments for an emergency meeting this afternoon, Sept. 25, to tackle the current situation caused by Typhoon Opong, which is affecting the province, particularly the northern parts of Cebu.

During the meeting, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO-Focal) Ret. Col. Dennis Francis V. Pastor presented a situational report, while the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) detailed the preparations of food packs for distribution to affected families, together with personnel of the Cebu People’s Action Center (CPAC) and Provincial General Services Office (PGSO).  The provincial government has readied food packs good for 2,000 families as part of its immediate response measures.

Cebu Police Provincial Office (CPPO) director Police Colonel Abubakar Udang Mangelen Jr. also joined the discussions and provided updates on the ongoing coordination efforts being undertaken by the police through the PNP Command Center.

Governor Baricuatro emphasized the critical importance of disaster readiness and proactive planning, stating: “Let us prepare for the worst, but let us pray nga gamay rani nga damage. We have to be proactive, dili reactive.” She stressed that communities must take preventive measures, coordinate with local authorities, and ensure that resources and emergency response teams are ready to act at a moment’s notice to minimize the impact of Typhoon Opong.

The Provincial Government of Cebu is urging the public, particularly residents in northern Cebu, to remain vigilant, closely follow all official advisories, and take all necessary precautions to protect themselves, their families, and their properties amid ongoing weather threats.
