Gov. Pamela Baricuatro announced on Wednesday, September 24, that patients admitted in any of the 16 Capitol-run hospitals will now receive double the previous meal allowance — the first of such increase in six years.
From the old rate of ₱50 per meal or ₱150 per day, the new meal allowance is set at ₱100 per meal or ₱300 per day.
Dr. Nikki Catalan, piso public health consultant, said the adjustment ensures compliance with a directive of the Department of Health (DOH).
“This is in accordance with the DOH directive of giving in-patients 1,800k calories per day. Nag-comply lang ta sa DOH regulation,” she said.

The change is anchored on DOH Administrative Order 2025-0019, which requires public hospitals to provide patients with at least 1,800 calories daily. DOH has proposed a projected budget of P247.00 per day, per patient, showing the Capitol has provided a larger amount.
This increase is crucial for enhancing patient welfare, ensuring proper nutrition during confinement, and aligning the policy of Capitol-run hospitals with national standards.
It demonstrates Gov. Baricuatro’s dedication to improving the quality of public healthcare after years without budget adjustments. | CAPITOL PIO
