The Capitol Social Hall hosted a symposium on reproductive health, along with cancer and HIV screening, on Wednesday, September 24.
The Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society (POGS), in partnership with the Cebu Provincial Government, organized the event. Chiefs of Capitol-run hospitals, POGS member doctors in Cebu, municipal health officers, nurses, and barangay health workers attended.
In her message, Governor Pamela Baricuatro thanked POGS for bringing their programs to Cebu and emphasized the need to put women’s health at the forefront.

“I have seen how much women carry on their shoulders. They take care of their families, their work, their communities. But too often we put ourselves last. “We often set aside our health until it becomes an emergency, and that is something we need to change,” the governor said.
She noted that behind every case of breast cancer, cervical cancer, and other maternal and reproductive health issues are the struggles of women and their families.
“That is why the Cebu Provincial Government under my administration is committed to strengthening healthcare. We are making sure that early detection, proper treatment, and information reach every corner of our province,” she added.

The program began with a lecture on reproductive health for medical professionals, followed by a lay forum that included cervical and breast cancer screening, HIV testing, and flu and tetanus toxoid vaccination for pregnant women.
“We are here for a unified action for immunization of women, cervical and breast cancer screening, reproductive health awareness, especially the prevention and management of reproductive health infections,” said Dr. Helen B. Albaño, POGS regional director.
POGS, a private organization of obstetrician-gynecologists, provides quality reproductive healthcare, upholds ethical standards, and promotes women’s health awareness through advocacy and education. | CAPITOL PIO
