Cebu newly hired nurses training

At least 160 newly hired nurses of the Cebu Provincial Government are undergoing a two-day Basic Life Support (BLS) training as they are being deployed to various Capitol-run hospitals.

The training, held at the Capitol Social Hall on September 23–24, covers cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), foreign body airway obstruction management, and rescue breathing, among many others

“This training is very important for healthcare providers who will be dealing directly with patients. Through these skills, they can provide the necessary intervention prior to the advanced care nga maabot. Magamit gyud ni nila before professional help arrives,” said nurse John Noel Enriquez.

Enriquez, program facilitator and manager of the Disaster Risk Reduction Management in Health (DRRM-H) program of the Provincial Health Office, said the training follows the American Heart Association’s 2021 guidelines.

“From the start mao gyud nay priority sa atong Governor to capacitate the hospitals not only in terms of equipment, facilities or diagnostic tools, but also the manpower, the healthcare provider,” Enriquez said.

Experts from the Department of Health Region 7 (DOH 7), Cebu Provincial Hospital Carcar, St. Anthony Mother & Child Hospital, Cebu South Medical Center and the Philippine National Police are facilitating the sessions.

The nurses will be deployed to 16 Capitol-run hospitals, including four provincial hospitals and 12 district hospitals.

The participants are part of the second batch of healthcare professionals hired by the Capitol last month under Governor Pamela Baricuatro’s agenda of drastically improving the healthcare delivery in the province, an area long neglected by the previous administration. | CAPITOL PIO
