BANTAYAN ISLAND, CEBU – In a remarkable display of community service and medical outreach, general surgeons and anesthesiologists from the All-Terrain Medical Relief Organization (AMRO) conducted minor surgeries for residents at Bantayan District Hospital over the past three days, beginning September 5, 2025. This initiative, led by volunteer medical staff and assistants, marks the start of the Capitol’s larger medical and surgical mission planned for later this month.
The surgical interventions focused on the removal of cysts, lumps, and other minor conditions, providing patients with immediate relief while emphasizing accessibility to quality healthcare. This effort reflects Governor Pamela Baricuatro’s commitment to prioritizing health services for all Cebuanos, particularly in remote and underserved areas like Bantayan Island.

Preparing for a Larger Medical Mission
The recent minor surgeries served as an initial offering in preparation for the upcoming full-scale medical and surgical mission, scheduled on September 19-20, 2025, at the same facility. During this major event, the surgical team aims to perform more complex operations, extending critical medical care to patients who may otherwise struggle to access it.
“This pre-mission activity allowed us to assess the needs of the community and ensure that we are fully prepared for the larger surgical procedures,” explained a representative from the Provincial Health Office. “We are grateful to our partners from AMRO for their dedication and expertise, which make these services possible.”
Volunteer Medical Team Recognized
The Provincial Health Office thanked the AMRO medical team, including Drs. Simporios, Co, Susan, Montilla, and Capoy, for their skilled and compassionate care benefiting Bantayan residents.
Volunteers, including nurses and support staff, were crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of the medical mission. Their combined efforts exemplify the spirit of service and humanitarian care that the Capitol seeks to promote across Cebu Province.
Health as a Top Priority Under Gov. Baricuatro
Under the administration of People’s Governor Pamela Baricuatro, health has remained a cornerstone of provincial governance. Her office continues programs to deliver free, quality healthcare, especially to remote areas with limited medical resources.
Governor Baricuatro stressed that preventive care and early intervention improve residents’ quality of life. “We want every Cebuano to have access to health services, no matter where they live,” she said. “These initiatives reflect our commitment to putting the welfare of our people first.”
Building a Culture of Medical Volunteerism
The partnership between the Cebu Provincial Government and AMRO highlights the value of collaborative volunteerism in the healthcare sector. By using skilled surgeons and volunteers, the province provides specialized services often unavailable to island communities.
“This program builds trust, awareness, and a culture of care, inspiring others to serve the community,” a health official said.
