Cebu Honors Two Centenarians with ₱100,000 Award and Recognition

CEBU – The Cebu Provincial Government recently celebrated a remarkable milestone in the lives of two of its residents, honoring them for reaching the rare age of 100 years. The centenarians, Cecilia Mirasol Yrauda Doroon of Oslob and Silveria Davis of Argao, were personally recognized by representatives from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and local government officials.

The heartwarming recognition took place on Friday, September 5, 2025, with a special ceremony designed to celebrate not only their age but also the wisdom and experiences they bring to their communities. The gesture also included a ₱100,000 cash award and a certificate of recognition for each honoree.

Personal Visits to Oslob and Argao

To make the recognition more personal and meaningful, representatives of the Cebu Provincial Government traveled to the southern towns of Oslob and Argao, accompanied by staff from Provincial Board Members Stanley Caminero and Raymond Calderon.

In Oslob, the team visited Cecilia Doroon (b. June 14, 1925), a mother of seven and grandmother of 50+, who credits her long life to a healthy diet and positive outlook.

Meanwhile, in Argao, the team met Silveria Davis of Barangay Canbanua. Born on June 20, 1925, Davis lives with her sibling and has remained single throughout her life. She attributes her long life to healthy, organic food and the daily practice of prayer, reflecting a combination of physical wellness and spiritual mindfulness that has guided her journey over the past century.

Community and Government Support

The celebration was supported by several local and provincial offices, highlighting Cebu’s commitment to valuing and supporting senior citizens. MSWDOs, Senior Citizens Affairs, and local chapter presidents played key roles in making the event possible.

“This honors our elders’ wisdom and legacy, inspiring younger generations to value health, family, and community,” said a PSWDO representative.

Lessons from a Century of Life

Both Doroon and Davis have witnessed a century of change, growth, and transformation in Cebu and the Philippines. From historical events to modern advancements, their perspectives provide invaluable insight into the evolution of society over the past 100 years.

Doroon emphasized the importance of family and proper nutrition in achieving longevity. “Fish, vegetables, milk, and oatmeal – simple things make a difference. And always stay active,” she advised.

Davis, meanwhile, reflected on the balance between body and soul. “Eating healthy is essential, but daily prayer and peace of mind are just as important. Life is more fulfilling when you nurture both,” she shared.

Cebu’s Commitment to Senior Citizens

This recognition highlights Cebu’s efforts to promote senior welfare, health, family support, and community involvement.

Governor Baricuatro champions programs offering financial, healthcare, and social support to ensure elders’ well-being.

“Their achievements remind us that age is not a barrier to living fully and meaningfully,” a provincial official said. “We hope that their stories will inspire Cebuanos to adopt healthier lifestyles and cherish family bonds.”

Celebrating a Century of Life

Honoring centenarians like Doroon and Davis inspires the community, showing that a long life is defined by experiences and values.
