Cebu’s 456th Founding Anniversary came to a meaningful close with the province’s first-ever Pasundayag sa Pagtuo, a grand procession celebrating faith, culture, and tradition. Unlike extravagant celebrations, the event highlighted Cebu’s deep-rooted spiritual and cultural heritage, reminding Cebuanos of the values and traditions that have shaped their identity through centuries.

A Procession of Faith and Heritage
The inaugural Pasundayag sa Pagtuo was held on August 31, 2025, starting with a procession from the Cebu Provincial Capitol to Plaza Independencia. Elegant carrozas bearing revered saints and sacred icons from Cebu’s towns and cities were accompanied by delegations performing traditional music, chants, and prayers, presenting a living testament of Cebuano heritage.
The procession showcased Spanish-era craftsmanship, sacred art, and devotion, reflecting the province’s rich traditions.
Culmination of Month-Long Celebrations
After the procession, Rev. Fr. Jonathan Rubin led a Holy Mass, followed by a ceremony closing Cebu’s month-long Founding Anniversary.
Governor Baricuatro, with Vice Gov. Soco and board members, highlighted the event’s deeper significance.
“Pasundayag is more than a celebration. It is a living testament of our identity, showing us who we are today and what we hope to pass on to the next generations,” Gov. Baricuatro said.
She further shared her personal connection to the event:
“My faith has always guided me in everything I do, especially as your governor. One of the things I love most about Cebu is how rich we are in faith. This is what keeps us strong and united as Cebuanos.”
Celebrating Unity and Shared Heritage
The Pasundayag sa Pagtuo united LGUs, communities, and religious groups in celebrating Cebu’s culture and devotion.
Governor Baricuatro noted that the event not only highlights religious faith but also fosters inter-municipal collaboration and appreciation of Cebuano identity.
“The Pasundayag is a celebration of shared heritage, enduring devotion, and unity that binds Cebu as one province,” she remarked.
Key Organizers and Contributors
The first Pasundayag sa Pagtuo was initiated by PBM Red Duterte and PTO Head Weng Montecillo with full LGU support.
“Daghang salamat, Provincial Board Member Red Duterte and the Provincial Tourism Office led by Director Weng Montecillo. May this be the start of many more events that celebrate the strong faith of the Cebuano people,” Gov. Baricuatro said.
A Lasting Legacy
The Pasundayag sa Pagtuo represents more than just a festival; it is a milestone in Cebu’s cultural and spiritual preservation. By combining faith, history, and local artistry, the event reinforces the province’s identity and serves as an inspiration for future generations to honor their heritage.
Governor Baricuatro affirmed the province’s commitment to Cebuano culture, faith, and unity in community life.
“May this event be a beacon of faith, unity, and our shared Cebuano heritage,” the governor said.
