Cebu Province — Nearly 200 young leaders from across Cebu gathered for a historic event, the first-ever Cebu Youth Fair – ABTIK Conversations, spearheaded by Governor Pamela Baricuatro on Saturday. The fair brought together Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation presidents, Local Youth Development Officers, and other youth leaders in a collaborative and empowering platform, marking a significant milestone in the province’s youth development initiatives.
Governor Baricuatro emphasized the importance of reconnecting the government with the youth, a sector she said had been long overlooked. “In my administration, youth is a priority. You are my partners. The Capitol doors are open to you. Always,” she told the participants, highlighting her commitment to expanding youth programs and opportunities throughout Cebu.

ABTIK Conversations: Inspiring, Engaging, and Educational
ABTIK, which stands for Active, Brilliant, Thriving, Informed Kabatanonan Cebuano, provided a structured yet dynamic environment for knowledge-sharing, networking, and capacity building. Through a series of thought-provoking talks and interactive sessions, participants explored multiple aspects of youth engagement, leadership, and personal development.
Some of the featured speakers included:
- Cara Durano – focusing on confidence-building and personal empowerment through “Colors of Confidence.”
- Alem Garcia – addressing responsible digital behavior and the ethical use of social media and AI.
- AJ Durano – encouraging youth entrepreneurship and innovation.
- Dr. Nikki Catalan – highlighting youth health, wellness, and mental resilience.
- Kevin Garcia – discussing environmental advocacy and youth involvement in sustainability initiatives.
Mental health, a key concern among the younger generation, was tackled by Emm Julie Rose Luna, RPm, from Tawag Paglaum under the Department of Health – Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center. Luna emphasized the importance of emotional resilience, stress management, and access to psychosocial support, equipping participants with tools to manage personal and academic challenges.
The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) also participated in the fair, presenting scholarship opportunities, innovation programs, and resources for young Cebuanos aiming to pursue careers in science, technology, and research.
Support from Provincial Leaders
Cebu Vice Gov. Glenn Soco inspired the youth by sharing his journey, while Provincial Asst. Admin. Aldwin Empaces highlighted the Capitol’s programs and vision to empower young leaders.
“This event represents more than just a gathering; it is the rekindling of Cebu’s commitment to the youth,” said Empaces. “Through Governor Baricuatro’s leadership, we aim to build an inclusive platform where young Cebuanos can thrive, contribute, and lead.”
Youth at the Center of Governance
The Provincial Youth Fair aligns closely with one of Governor Baricuatro’s top executive orders — the reactivation of the Provincial Youth Commission (PYC). This move strengthens Cebu’s youth programs, facilitates partnerships with the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation, and ensures consistent advocacy for youth engagement at all levels of local governance.
Marven Gorgonio, a youth leader instrumental in organizing the fair, expressed his excitement about the event’s success. “This is a historic moment for Cebu’s youth. ABTIK Conversations has created a space for dialogue, learning, and collaboration that will empower young leaders for years to come.”
The fair was supported by various provincial offices and leaders, including:
- Loren Singco, SK Federation President, facilitating youth representation and participation.
- Marirose Lopez, Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), providing guidance on youth welfare programs.
- Marites Alcos, Provincial General Services Office (PGSO), ensuring smooth logistics and operations.
Shaping a Brighter Future for Cebuano Youth
Through the ABTIK Conversations, Governor Baricuatro’s administration aims to tackle critical issues affecting youth, including:
- Education and Scholarship Access – expanding opportunities for young Cebuanos to excel academically.
- Entrepreneurship and Innovation – encouraging creativity, business skills, and problem-solving capabilities.
- Health and Mental Wellness – promoting physical and emotional resilience.
- Environmental Responsibility – engaging youth in sustainability and community stewardship.
Governor Baricuatro concluded the fair by reinforcing her commitment to continuous youth engagement. “The Cebu Youth Fair is just the beginning. We will continue to create programs, opportunities, and initiatives where the youth are not just participants but active partners in shaping the future of Cebu.”
A Milestone in Cebu’s Youth Development
The 2025 Cebu Youth Fair highlights the revival of youth activities, empowering young Cebuanos to engage, learn, and lead in governance and community development.
With nearly 200 participants, the success of ABTIK Conversations is a testament to the province’s renewed commitment to youth empowerment. It also sets the stage for future gatherings, workshops, and mentorship programs that will nurture the next generation of leaders for Cebu.
