Cebu Province — Nearly 200 young leaders gathered for the Cebu Youth Fair – ABTIK Conversations, the first major Capitol-led youth event in years. The gathering was part of the 456th Founding Anniversary of the Province of Cebu and marked the start of a renewed focus on empowering the youth sector under Governor Pamela Baricuatro.
The fair brought together Sangguniang Kabataan Federation presidents, Local Youth Development Officers (LYDOs), and young leaders from across the province. It highlighted how the Capitol is once again opening its doors to Cebu’s youth.

Governor Baricuatro: “Youth Are My Partners”
Governor Baricuatro stressed that the youth are not just beneficiaries of programs. They are active partners in governance and progress.
“In my administration, youth is a priority. You are my partners. The Capitol doors are open to you. Always,” she told the participants.
Her message was clear: youth empowerment is not a one-time event. It is a sustained commitment. This is why she has reactivated the Provincial Youth Commission (PYC), which will oversee long-term programs and policies for Cebuano youth.

ABTIK Conversations: Inspiring Talks for Young Leaders
The highlight of the fair was ABTIK Conversations. ABTIK stands for Active, Brilliant, Thriving, Informed Kabatanonan Cebuano. The sessions featured speakers who shared lessons in confidence, health, entrepreneurship, digital literacy, and environmental protection.
- Cara Durano – Colors of Confidence, focusing on self-growth and leadership.
- Alem Garcia – Responsible Use of Social Media & AI, stressing digital responsibility.
- AJ Durano – Youth Entrepreneurship, showing how the youth can succeed in business.
- Dr. Nikki Catalan – Youth Health and Wellness, highlighting the importance of fitness and preventive care.
- Kevin Garcia – Youth for a Greener Cebu, urging young people to act on environmental issues.
Mental health was also a major focus. Emm Julie Rose Luna, RPm, from the DOH’s Tawag Paglaum Program, spoke about emotional resilience. She reminded participants that mental well-being is just as important as physical health.

Expanding Opportunities for Young Cebuanos
Beyond talks, the fair also introduced participants to new opportunities. The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) presented its scholarship and innovation programs. These programs can help students pursue careers in science, research, and technology.
To inspire the audience further, Vice Governor Glenn Soco shared his personal journey. He encouraged the youth to be persistent and to take leadership roles in their communities.
Meanwhile, Provincial Assistant Administrator Aldwin Empaces discussed the Capitol’s roadmap for youth development. He assured that under Governor Baricuatro, youth programs will not only continue but also expand.

Collaboration Made It Possible
The fair was a success because of teamwork between the Capitol and youth leaders.
- Marven Gorgonio, a youth leader, spearheaded planning and coordination.
- Loren Singco, SK Federation President, ensured strong participation from SK councils.
- The Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), led by Marirose Lopez, provided vital support.
- The Provincial General Services Office (PGSO), under Marites Alcos, assisted with logistics.
- The Provincial Information Office helped promote the event and connect with the participants.
Together, they made the event possible and ensured it was both meaningful and inclusive.

Looking Ahead: Building a Stronger Future for Cebu’s Youth
As the fair ended, attention turned to what comes next. Governor Baricuatro promised more youth-centered programs. These include annual youth fairs, mentorship initiatives, and greater participation in governance.
“Empowering the youth means securing the future of Cebu,” the Governor said. “Through every initiative, we aim to provide young Cebuanos with the tools, opportunities, and platforms they need to thrive.”
With almost 200 participants engaged in this historic gathering, the Cebu Youth Fair marked the comeback of Cebu’s youth sector. More importantly, it signaled that young people will now play an active role in shaping policies, programs, and the future of the province.
