COMPOSTELA, CEBU — Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro and Compostela Mayor Felijur Quiño led the opening on August 18 of the Dapdap-Mulao Diversion Road, restoring road access to three mountain barangays in the town.
The opening also marked the announcement of a new provincial road task force that will focus on identifying and addressing road problems across Cebu, with mayors to be included in the initiative to help determine which roads in their respective jurisdictions need immediate attention.
The 250-meter diversion road is expected to improve mobility for residents of Dapdap, Mulao, and Tag-ube, particularly after the previous provincial road which connected the barangays was damaged by strong floodwaters brought by Typhoon Tino last year.
“Nasugdan naman gyod nato og ayo ang atong mga provincial hospitals, now it’s time to fix our provincial roads,” Gov. Baricuatro said during the short program.
Dapdap Barangay Captain Joseph Vasquez said at least 600 households in his barangay alone heaved a sigh of relief following the opening of the diversion road, which provides an alternative route after the old road cut off before plunging into the river.
The governor also thanked lot donor Helga Natad-Canen and her siblings for allowing the provincial government to use their property for the construction of the road.
“We are only stewards here on earth. Ang Ginoo maoy tag-iya sa tanan, tinugyanan rata. We received so many blessings, so amo sad ning i-share,” Natad-Canen told the Capitol PIO.
Provincial Engineer Hector Jamora said the diversion road measures about 250 meters and will be concreted once the groundworks are completed.
Joining the governor were fifth district Board Member Mike Villamor, Vice Mayor Froilan Quiño, Provincial Administrator Atty. Ace Durano, Mulao Barangay Captain Fausto Yungco, and Tag-ube Barangay Captain Cherrylin Noquiao.
PROVINCIAL ROAD TASK FORCE
Gov. Baricuatro announced that the provincial government will create a task force dedicated to improving provincial roads across Cebu.
The task force will be allocated a budget beginning next year and will include mayors as members, recognizing their knowledge of the road conditions and infrastructure needs within their respective jurisdictions.
The governor also announced the creation of a hotline, which she jokingly called the “Libaong Hotline,” where the public can directly report defective or damaged provincial roads to the Capitol for prompt action. /𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶, 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒔 𝒃𝒚 𝑨𝑹𝑱
