𝐂𝐀𝐏𝐈𝐓𝐎𝐋 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐀𝐍𝐃𝐒 𝐅𝐔𝐄𝐋, 𝐑𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐀𝐈𝐃 𝐓𝐎 𝐇𝐀𝐁𝐀𝐋-𝐇𝐀𝐁𝐀𝐋 𝐃𝐑𝐈𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒
The Cebu Provincial Government returned to the municipalities of Compostela and Liloan on August 18 to continue the distribution of fuel and rice assistance to habal-habal drivers amid rising fuel prices.
Led by Governor Pamela Baricuatro, the second batch of assistance benefited 1,532 habal-habal drivers in Compostela and 1,981 drivers in Liloan. Each beneficiary received P3,000 in cash and 10 kilos of rice from the national government.
The latest distribution brought the total number of drivers assisted in the two municipalities to 6,361, following the first batch held on August 11, which benefited 1,348 drivers in Compostela and 1,500 in Liloan.
“Anhi ninyo makita nga ang atoang gobernadora naglantaw ug naninguha nga asa’ng dapita may ikatabang siya sa katawhan,” Compostela Mayor Felijur Quiño said during the short program at the DM Reynes Municipal Gym.
“Anhi nato makita nga may puso ang gobernadora,” he added.
For his part, Liloan Mayor Aljew Frasco said the assistance came at a timely period as fuel prices have risen again due to external factors beyond Cebu’s control.
He said the increase in fuel prices has greatly affected habal-habal drivers, who are left with less take-home income.
“Sinsiro gyod ang amoang pasalamat dinha sa Provincial Capitol ug dinha nimo, Gov., sa paghatag ani nga assistance sa fuel ug rice diri sa atoang mga habal-habal drivers,” Mayor Frasco said.
The distributed rice came from the “Bigay Bigas sa Masa” program. It is funded through the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF) of the Department of Budget and Management and aims to provide rice assistance to qualified beneficiaries, like habal-habal drivers.
For her part, Gov. Baricuatro said habal-habal drivers deserve the assistance because they provide a basic service in their communities by transporting people and goods, helping keep local economic activities moving.
