Some 3,194 Cordova residents from various sectors received rice assistance on Thursday as the national government rolled out its Bagong Pilipinas Rice Program in the town.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto led the distribution at the Cordova Sports Complex, joined by local officials.
Among those present during the event were Gov. Pamela Baricuatro, Balamban Mayor Amos Edwin Cabahug, Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival, Cordova Mayor Cesar Suan and Sogod Mayor Monyeen Streegan.
The beneficiaries included fisherfolk, single parents, senior citizens and other sectors of the community.
Bawat Barangay Makikinabang
The activity also featured the Bawat Barangay Makikinabang program, which showcased barangay projects in Cebu and provided assistance to local government units (LGUs) through the Local Government Support Fund (LGSF).
The activity highlighted the partnership between the national and local governments in bringing assistance and development programs closer to communities.
“Magiging matagumpay ang ating pamahalaan kung magtutulungan ang national at ang local government kaya andito tayo sa Cebu para matulungan ang mga kababayan natin,” Recto said in an interview with reporters.
During the event, Recto handed Gov. Baricuatro a P265-million Special Allotment Release Order (SARO), authorizing the release of LGSF for various programs and projects in the province.
The governor expressed her gratitude to the national government for its continuous efforts in helping the LGUs ease the lives of the Cebuanos.
“Cebu has received tremendous support from the national government in many areas, from our programs and projects to assistance for our communities, especially during times when our people needed help the most. We recognize that support, and we are deeply grateful for the partnership,”Gov. Baricuatro said in her welcome message.
She said the province would use the funds for health, energy, farm-to-market roads and food security programs.
Presidential Assistant for the Visayas Philip Lo also attended the event.
