The recently concluded “Tabo sa Kapitolyo: Agri-Fisheries Trade Fair 2026” generated P9.8 million in sales during its weeklong run at the Parking Lot of the Cebu Provincial Capitol, providing a significant boost to Cebuano farmers, fisherfolk, food producers and other agri-fishery enterprises.

“Sukad ko nahimong provincial agriculturist since 2011, karon pako kasuway ingon ana kadako’g halin ang tabo,” said Dr. Roldan Saragena, Cebu provincial agriculturist.

Held from August 3 to 9, the agri-fisheries trade fair was one of the highlights of the province’s 457th Founding Anniversary celebration.

The event was participated in by 52 local government units (LGUs), including Cebu’s 44 municipalities, six component cities, and the highly urbanized cities of Cebu and Mandaue.

Sixteen private exhibitors also joined the trade fair, bringing the total number of exhibitors to 68.

Saragena attributed the strong public turnout to the bigger and more accessible venue at Parking Lot 1 beside the Heritage Park inside the Capitol compound.

“Daghang nibisita kay mas hamugaway man ang ilang pagtuyok-tuyok,” he said.

He added, however, that the biggest factor behind the trade fair’s success was the combination of affordable prices and quality products showcasing the diverse and rich agri-fishery products of Cebu, including its well-known local cuisine.

Among the standout products were cassava products from Camotes, humba from Ronda, Bisayang Manok, lechon, dried fish from Bantayan, Torta from Argao, Tuba ice cream from Borbon, as well as crops, fruits, and vegetables from all over Cebu.

“Dili nato kalimtan, quality pod ang atong mga produkto, presko, unya barato,” he said, adding that exhibitors agreed to keep their prices below prevailing market rates since LGU exhibitors were not charged participation fees.

The LGU exhibitors generated a little over P7 million in total sales, with 30 LGUs recording six-digit earnings. Private exhibitors, meanwhile, generated P2.8 million.

Among the LGUs, Liloan ranked first with P442,569 in sales, followed by Tudela with P327,141. Argao placed third with P281,045, Santa Fe fourth with P263,380, and Cordova rounded out the top five with P260,175.

Saragena said Gov. Pamela Baricuatro has challenged the Provincial Agriculture Office to prepare for an even bigger and better trade fair to be featured during the Pasko sa Kapitolyo celebration in December. /𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶, 𝑭𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒔
