The Cebu Provincial Government has started preparations for a new round of infrastructure upgrades at Daanbantayan District Hospital, with officials holding a pre-construction conference today to align project implementation before work begins.
The meeting brought together hospital officials led by Chief of Hospital Dr. Hanzel Ibona, representatives of the Provincial Engineering Office headed by Planning Engineer Eva Estoconing, and contractor Grand Taishan to discuss the scope of work, construction schedule and measures to minimize disruption to hospital operations.
The projects include the construction of a new Outpatient Department and Pharmacy Building, a Dietary Building, a Linen and Laundry Building, an Ambulance Park and Maintenance Building, a Hazardous Waste Storage Building, and a Morgue Building.
“These improvements also help lay the groundwork for the future upgrading of Daanbantayan District Hospital to a Level 1 hospital, in due time, as we progressively complete the infrastructure, manpower, equipment, and service requirements needed for the upgrade,” said Capitol Piso Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan, who was present at the meeting.
Catalan has been tasked by Gov. Pamela Baricuatro to oversee the health reforms under her administration.
Also lined up are the construction of a covered walkway linking the main hospital building and the outpatient department, repairs to the emergency room, laboratory and radiology sections, repainting of hospital buildings, and rehabilitation of the perimeter fence.
Provincial officials said the upgrades are intended to improve patient care and provide a safer and more efficient working environment for healthcare workers while strengthening the hospital’s facilities.
The improvements are also expected to help position Daanbantayan District Hospital for its planned upgrade to a Level 1 hospital once it meets the required standards for infrastructure, equipment, manpower and services.
