The inaugural Governor’s Zero Hunger Run raised P2.9 million for food security and nutrition programs after drawing 3,500 participants in what Cebu Gov. Pamela Baricuatro described as the country’s first footrace dedicated to the fight against hunger.
“This was our first Governor’s Zero Hunger Run, and its success belongs to all of you. Daghang salamat Cebu,” Gov. Baricuatro said.
“As I have always believed, if we want to eliminate hunger, we must involve everyone. This event showed what we can accomplish when government, communities, and the private sector work together with compassion and a shared purpose,” she added.
Organized by the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission as part of Cebu Province’s 457th Founding Anniversary celebration, the fundraising event brought together runners from around the province in support of the Capitol’s Zero Hunger campaign.
Gov. Baricuatro, who joined the 1K fun run with guests, Capitol officials and employees, thanked participants for turning the advocacy into what she called a movement.
“Thank you to every runner who showed up and ran with us,” she said.
The governor said the proceeds from the event will help fund initiatives aimed at improving food security and nutrition among Cebuanos.
Gov. Baricuatro thanked the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission, Run Director May Salimbangon, Provincial Board members, Capitol departments and employees, participating local government units, volunteers, the Cebu City Transportation Office, the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Fire Protection, and other agencies that helped ensure the event’s success.
The governor also expressed gratitude to the event’s sponsors and partners, as well as the thousands of runners whose participation helped make the province’s first Governor’s Zero Hunger Run a successful fundraising initiative.
