𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐩𝐬𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐫, 𝐓𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐨𝐬𝐚 𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐆𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐨𝐫’𝐬 𝐙𝐞𝐫𝐨 𝐇𝐮𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐫 𝐑𝐮𝐧
Cebu-based Kenyan runner Eric Chepsiror and Art Joy Torregosa emerged as champions in the 21-kilometer races of the 1st Governor’s Zero Hunger Run on Sunday, leading the winners of the charity event that drew more than 3,500 participants.
Chepsiror won the men’s premier division after clocking 1 hour, 12 minutes and 59.96 seconds, finishing ahead of fellow Kenyan Daniel Boiwo (1:13:23.77) and Luka Lagat (1:14:27.19).
John Veloso Pomeroy placed fourth in 1:29:20.66, while Temistocles Dela Concepcion finished fifth in 1:35:54.21.
Torregosa, meanwhile, ruled the women’s 21K race in 1:32:16.92, ahead of Kay Razel Cubdangan, Josephine Rodriguez, April Joy Rapiz and Addygel Mie Truz.
Chepsiror and Torregosa went home P20,000 richer while the second and third placers earned P15,000 and P10,000, respectively. The fourth and fifth finishers each received P5,000.
Organized by the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission as part of the province’s 457th Founding Anniversary celebration, the race also served as a fundraiser for the provincial government’s anti-hunger campaign.
‘𝗔 𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗺 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲’
Gov. Pamela Baricuatro, who joined the 1K fun run along with more than 500 guest runners, thanked the participants for supporting the Capitol’s initiative.
“If you want to eliminate hunger, you have to involve everybody,” the governor said.
Gov. Baricuatro added that the charity race was a dream come true for her because it supports the province’s goal of eliminating hunger in Cebu.
She also said she is open to making the race an international event in next year’s edition.
Some members of the Provincial Board as well as Capitol executives and employees also took part in the fun run and various race categories to support the governor’s advocacy against hunger.
𝟭𝟮𝗞, 𝟲𝗞, 𝟯𝗞 𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗿𝘀
Mark Mahinay and Lynnel Martus captured the men’s and women’s 12K titles, respectively. Jacob Cagomoc and Jasrain Mizzy Noval emerged as champions in the 6K races, while Jean Emard Valmoria and Jane Pangalao topped the men’s and women’s 3K events.
The Governor’s Zero Hunger Run featured four categories and a noncompetitive 1K fun run. Nearly P250,000 in cash prizes were at stake, while those who did not win in the races did not go home empty-handed as raffle prizes were also given away.
These included P88,000 in cash, an iPhone 15, a laptop, motorcycles, among other prizes.
