A total of 871 habal-habal drivers in Cebu’s southern municipalities of Sibonga and San Fernando benefited from the Cebu Provincial Government’s fuel assistance distribution on Wednesday, July 29.

In Sibonga, 644 drivers each received ₱3,000 in cash assistance from the provincial government and 10 kilograms of rice under the national government’s “Bigay Bigas Para sa Masa” program.

The distribution also included agricultural and veterinary assistance for local farmers and livestock raisers. The Capitol also turned over a walking-type tractor with implements, assorted vegetable and fruit tree seedlings, livestock vaccines, and veterinary supplies.

Gov. Pamela Baricuatro, together with First District Provincial Board Member Jojo Bacaltos, reiterated the provincial government’s commitment to providing direct assistance to municipalities as communities continue to grapple with the effects of the global economic crisis.

“I hope nabati na ninyo ang pagpangga sa Kapitolyo diha kaninyong tanan… But the government, we are really doing our part nga ma-minimize ni ug makatabang pa kaninyo,” Gov. Baricuatro said.

Gov. Baricuatro also handed over ₱3 million in socio-cultural financial assistance dedicated to supporting the town’s upcoming fiesta celebration, which was received by Vice Mayor Mariano “Dotis” Laude.

Following the Sibonga event, the provincial delegation brought the same assistance package to neighboring San Fernando, where 227 beneficiaries, including habal-habal drivers and members of various community sectors, received cash assistance, rice, agricultural equipment, and veterinary supplies.

During the program, Gov. Baricuatro also pledged to donate industrial fans for the Barangay Sangat gymnasium to improve ventilation and comfort during community activities.

San Fernando Mayor Mytha Canoy thanked Baricuatro and the Cebu Provincial Government for extending assistance to the municipality and recognizing the contributions of habal-habal drivers.

“Ang Local Government Unit of San Fernando malipayon ug mapasalamaton. Kay karong buntaga, giubanan gyud ta sa atong gobernadora! Kay iyang ihatag karong buntaga ang iyang tabang ninyo, mga habal-habal drivers. Sayod si Gov. Pam nga importante kaayo mo sa atong komunidad. Uwan ug init naa gyud mo… Nakita ni Gov. Pam kung unsa ang inyong sakripisyo, kahago, malasakit, pagpangga—dili lamang sa inyong matag pamilya, kundi sa tibuok komunidad,” Canoy said. /𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶, 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒔 𝒃𝒚 𝑱𝑳𝑷, 𝑨𝑹𝑱
