PORO, Camotes Islands—A People’s Food Center that seeks to provide farmers and fisherfolk with better market access is set to rise in Barangay Adela after Gov. Pamela Baricuatro led its capsule-laying and groundbreaking rites on Monday.
The provincial government has allocated P4.659 million for the facility, which will provide farmers and fisherfolk with rent-free stalls where they can sell their produce directly to consumers without going through middlemen.
Following the groundbreaking, Gov. Baricuatro turned over P950,000 in financial assistance to nine barangays in Poro namely Cagcagan, San Jose, Eastern Poblacion, Daan Paz, Pagsa, Altavista, Santa Rita, Libertad and Adela.
The aid, ranging from P50,000 to P200,000 each, will fund the purchase of equipment and other community needs.
About 4,000 residents also received 10 kilos of rice each from the national government food assistance program facilitated by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office.
𝟮𝟬𝟬 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘀, 𝟰𝟬 𝗴𝗼𝗮𝘁𝘀
The Provincial Veterinary Office distributed 40 goats to workers’ federations, while farmers received walking-type tractors with rotary tillers as well as seedlings to support agricultural production. The Capitol also turned over 200 solar lighting units to Barangay Adela.
Joining the governor during the activities were Provincial Administrator Atty. Ace Durano, former Fifth District Rep. Red Durano, Board Member Mike Villamor, Provincial Engineer Hector Jamora, Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Mary Rose Vincoy, Provincial Agriculturist Dr. Roldan Saragena and local barangay officials.
