𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗹 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲-𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺
BALAMBAN, Cebu — Pupils of Jose Chona Jo Elementary School in Barangay Cambuhawe became the first beneficiaries of the Cebu Provincial Government’s province-wide “Tabang Pangpabaskog Feeding Program”, which was launched at the barangay gym on July 16.
The program is part of the Capitol’s efforts to address child malnutrition and improve learners’ health and school performance through sustained nutrition support. It also complements existing feeding initiatives of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Department of Education (DepEd).
Gov. Pamela Baricuatro led the launch after signing a memorandum of understanding with Balamban Mayor Amos Cabahug and DepEd Cebu Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Senen Priscillo Paulin for the program’s implementation.
𝗣𝟭𝟰𝟬-𝗠 𝗯𝘂𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘁
Early this month, the governor announced a P140-million allocation for the province’s feeding program and the deployment of seven mobile kitchens to further strengthen the Capitol’s food security initiatives in the province.
The feeding program will provide nutritious breakfast meals to around 1,000 pupils of Jose Chona Jo Elementary School during its initial rollout.
It is expected to expand across the province, with Grade 2 pupils identified by DepEd as severely wasted, undernourished, stunted, or otherwise nutritionally at risk serving as the primary beneficiaries.
𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆-𝘁𝗼-𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘀
Unlike the previous Capitol feeding program, in which the provincial government supplied only rice while parents and teachers prepared the viands, the new program provides ready-to-eat meals.
“Kini among feeding program, dili mi ganahan manghasol ninyo,” the governor said. “Dili mi ganahan nga ang atong mga teachers ug parents pa ang palutoon. Inag abot ani ninyo, read to eat nani siya.”
The intervention will run for at least 120 days and includes weekly food assistance, hot meal feeding activities, nutritional drinks, weight monitoring, periodic assessments, and other learner-support interventions.
It is designed to supplement the feeding programs of the DSWD for daycare centers and DepEd for public school pupils.
𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗯𝘂𝘁𝗲𝗱
During the event, Gov. Baricuatro also led the distribution of school supplies to pupils from Kindergarten to Grade 3. The assistance included school bags, paper, notebooks, crayons, and pencils.
