The provincial government has started deploying new laparoscopy tower systems to six Capitol-run hospitals, expanding access to minimally invasive surgical procedures for patients in mainland Cebu as well as the island municipalities of Camotes and Bantayan.
The new Mindray Laparoscopy Tower Systems are being delivered to Cebu Provincial Hospital (CPH) in Danao, Balamban, Bogo and Carcar, as well as Ricardo L. Maningo Memorial Hospital in Camotes and Bantayan District Hospital.
All six hospitals already have general surgeons and anesthesiologists, allowing them to strengthen and expand their surgical services using the new equipment.
Capitol Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan said the initiative is part of Capitol’s continuing effort to bring advanced healthcare closer to communities, reducing the need for patients to travel to major hospitals for procedures that can safely be performed in district and provincial hospitals.
𝟮 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗲𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗼𝘀𝗰𝗼𝗽𝘆 𝘁𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿
Two more facilities, including the Isidro C. Kintanar Memorial Hospital in Argao and Minglanilla District Hospital, are also set to receive laparoscopy tower systems as they prepare for their planned upgrade to Level 1 hospitals.
A laparoscopy tower is used in minimally invasive surgery, providing surgeons with high-definition visualization during operations.
For eligible patients, laparoscopic procedures generally involve smaller incisions, less blood loss and postoperative pain, lower risk of certain complications, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery.
𝗜𝗻𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗼𝗻𝘀
The provincial government also called on private surgeons and medical specialists to consider serving in Capitol-run hospitals, even on a part-time basis, as it continues to upgrade medical equipment and expand specialized services across Cebu.
Catalan said the goal is to ensure that more Cebuanos can receive quality surgical care closer to home, particularly those living in far-flung and island communities.
