𝐂𝐀𝐏𝐈𝐓𝐎𝐋 𝐄𝐗𝐓𝐄𝐍𝐃𝐒 𝐏𝟏𝟎𝐊 𝐂𝐀𝐋𝐀𝐌𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐀𝐈𝐃 𝐓𝐎 𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝟖𝟎𝟎 𝐓𝐘𝐏𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐍 𝐕𝐈𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐌𝐒 𝐈𝐍 𝐍𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐇 𝐂𝐄𝐁𝐔
A total of 873 residents from the northern Cebu towns of Liloan and Compostela received P10,000 in calamity cash assistance from the Cebu Provincial Government on Monday, July 13, 2026.
Governor Pamela Baricuatro personally led the distribution of financial assistance to beneficiaries identified as victims of Typhoon Tino, which struck Cebu in November 2025. Of the total beneficiaries, 482 are from Liloan while 391 are from Compostela.
In addition to the cash assistance, each beneficiary also received 10 kilograms of rice from the National Government, distributed through the Provincial Government as part of its continuing relief and recovery efforts.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Governor Baricuatro emotionally expressed that returning to the communities brought back memories of the devastation she witnessed during the height of the disaster.
“Abi ninyo kamoy nalipay kay naa ko ari, but sa tinuod lang, akoy nalipay nakakita ninyo. This is also healing for me to be here because the last time I went here, it was traumatic for me as it was for you. Kay nakita nako inyong pag-antos ug kalisod. Sakit kaayo akong dughan naghunahuna sa inyong kaantos, apan wala ra gyud ni kumpara sa inyong kasakit. Dili to lalim inyong naagian,” the governor said.
Governor Baricuatro likewise assured residents that the Provincial Government continues to pursue long-term flood mitigation measures. She shared that in her capacity as Chairperson of the Regional Development Council (RDC) 7, she has been advocating for the fast-tracking of watershed dam projects in the mountains to help prevent future typhoon-induced flooding. The proposed projects are currently undergoing feasibility studies and are targeted to begin construction next year.
For many beneficiaries, the financial assistance will help them continue rebuilding their lives.
Rose Viscayno and Marilyn Sanchez, both residents of Barangay Tamiao 1 in Compostela, said they intend to use the cash aid to buy materials for the reconstruction of their homes which were swept away by floodwaters during the typhoon.
Apart from the calamity assistance, both municipalities also received agricultural and livestock support from the Provincial Government under Governor Baricuatro’s Food Always In The Home (FAITH) Program. Each town was provided with one walking-type agricultural tractor with rotary tiller, 10 carabaos with plows, 20 goats, and various veterinary biologics to strengthen local food production and farmers’ livelihoods.
The governor also took the opportunity to assure residents that road improvement projects in Barangays Mulao, Dapdap, and Tag-ubi in Compostela, as well as Barangay Tabla in Liloan, will continue to move forward. She likewise pledged an additional P10 million to the Municipality of Compostela to support its socio-cultural programs.
The assistance distribution forms part of the Provincial Government’s continuing commitment to help communities recover from Typhoon Tino.
