𝗚𝗼𝘃. 𝗣𝗮𝗺 𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗲𝗱 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗢𝗦𝗧 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺𝘀
Gov. Pamela Baricuatro on Monday assured the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in Central Visayas that the Cebu Provincial Government would continue supporting its programs, saying investments in science, technology and innovation are key to building a more competitive and resilient Cebu.
Speaking at the opening of the 2026 Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW), Gov. Baricuatro said the province would continue backing DOST programs, particularly those that promote food security, sustainable energy, innovation and stronger communities, which she identified as among Cebu’s development priorities.
“That is why the Province of Cebu fully supports DOST’s programs, especially the trainings, innovation initiatives, and technology interventions that empower our farmers, entrepreneurs, students, MSMEs, and local government units to become more competitive and resilient,” she said.
The three-day event brought together government officials, researchers, industry leaders, students and innovators to showcase science and technology solutions aimed at accelerating development in Central Visayas.
The governor joined DOST Secretary Renato U. Solidum Jr., Undersecretary for Regional Operations Sancho A. Mabborang, and DOST 7 Regional Director Tristan L. Abando at the opening rites. Also present at the event were Provincial Administrator Atty. Ace Durano, Capitol Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan, Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Jovito “Jonkie” Ouano, and officials of Anjo World Theme Park.
This year’s celebration carries the theme, “Siyensya, Teknolohiya at Inobasyon: Kabalikat sa Matatag, Maginhawa, at Panatag na Kinabukasan,” under the banner “OneDOST4U: Solutions and Opportunities for All.”
One of the event’s highlights was the presentation of the Drone-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) Industry Development Initiative, which aims to expand the use of drone technology in disaster risk reduction, agriculture, environmental monitoring and other public services.
Participants also got a preview of the Anjo World Science Discovery Center, an interactive learning facility set to open on Aug. 5, where visitors will be able to explore science through immersive exhibits and hands-on activities.
