MAKATI CITY – Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Department of Education (DepEd) to implement the Basic Education Facilities Program (BEFP).
The MOA, signed at the DepEd Central Office in Makati City, secures P200 million in funding from the education department for the construction of additional school buildings across Cebu Province. Present during the signing were DepEd Assistant Secretary Aurelio Paulo R. Bartolome and Undersecretary Peter Irving Corvera.
Cebu Province is among the beneficiaries of the national government’s initiative to improve public school infrastructure, spearheaded by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. through DepEd Secretary Sonny Angara. The program aims to address the country’s backlog of 145,000 classrooms and is funded under the 2026 General Appropriations Act (GAA) for Basic Education Facilities.
Under the agreement, DepEd will oversee the program’s technical standards and fund allocation, while the Cebu Provincial Government will manage the procurement and construction of the school buildings to help address the province’s shortage of learning facilities. /𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶, 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒔 𝒃𝒚 𝑭𝑬
