The Ricardo L. Maningo Memorial Hospital in Camotes has acquired two new electrocautery machines, enhancing its surgical capability and allowing more patients to undergo procedures closer to home.
The district hospital, a Level 1 facility with active surgical services, received the equipment as part of the Cebu Provincial Government’s continuing effort to upgrade the 16 Capitol-run hospitals.
Electrocautery machines allow surgeons to cut tissue while sealing blood vessels during operations, helping control bleeding, improve visibility in the surgical field, and perform procedures more efficiently.
Capitol Piso Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan has been tasked by Gov. Pamela Baricuatro with supervising the ongoing health reforms implemented under her administration since she assumed office last year.

Catalan said the new equipment is expected to enhance the hospital’s capacity to provide safe and effective surgical care, reducing the need for Camotes residents to travel to mainland Cebu for operations that can already be performed on the island.
“There is still much work ahead, but we are steadily getting there,” Catalan said.
The health consultant added that additional medical equipment and hospital upgrades are also in the pipeline. Their delivery, however, depends on the completion of procurement requirements, including the Bids and Awards Committee process, to ensure transparency and accountability in the use of public funds.
“This is part of our continuing fulfillment of the promises made to the Cebuanos, with healthcare remaining a clear priority,” Catalan said.
