The Provincial Government of Cebu clarified that the 45-day ban imposed under Executive Order No. 39 on the entry of live hogs, pork, and pork products from Negros Island and other African Swine Fever (ASF)-affected areas is subject to continuous assessment based on the prevailing ASF situation.
While the order is initially effective for 45 days, Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Rose Vincoy emphasized that this does not automatically mean the ban will end after 45 days.
As expressly stated in Section 1 of EO No. 39, the ban “may be extended or modified based on outbreak developments and official advisories from the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI).”
The Provincial Government will closely monitor developments and consult with the DA and BAI before making any decision on whether to lift, extend, or adjust the restrictions.
The measure aims to safeguard Cebu’s ASF-free status, protect the province’s hog industry, secure the livelihood of local hog raisers, and ensure food security for all Cebuanos.
