Ret. Col. Dennis Pastor, chief of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), said Gov. Pamela Baricuatro directed the PDRRMO and the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) to prepare for the possible effects of Super Typhoon Bavi, which is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) tomorrow morning.
Pastor said initial assessments indicate the cyclone is expected to have only a moderate impact on Cebu.
Based on PAGASA’s latest forecast track, the super typhoon will remain away from the Philippine landmass.
Still, the province has begun pre-positioning rescue equipment and personnel in hazard-prone areas as a pre-emptive measure.
“When the typhoon enters PAR, we will be giving regular situation updates on Cebu. We have been coordinating with PAGASA, and our rescue boats, flood boats and responders are on standby. We are also coordinating with the Office of Civil Defense and other line agencies,” Pastor said during a press briefing on Tuesday, July 7, 2026.
Pastor said the PDRRMO has identified flood- and landslide-prone communities, particularly those near river systems, including parts of Cotcot, Mananga, Lusaran and Toledo City, based on hazard maps.

He, however, stressed that current forecasts show the weather disturbance is not expected to directly affect Cebu.
Should the need arise, the PDRRMO chief said local government units have the prerogative to suspend classes.
Pastor added that the governor also directed the PSWDO to prepare food packs for immediate deployment to areas that may require preemptive evacuation. Once Bavi enters PAR, it will be assigned the local name Inday.
