A total of 110 interns under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Region 7’s Government Internship Program (GIP) are now being deployed to various Capitol-run provincial and district hospitals to help strengthen healthcare services across Cebu.

The interns will serve for nine months, with their wages fully covered by DOLE, allowing the Provincial Government to boost hospital operations without additional financial burden. These interns are young graduates, including high school, college, and technical-vocational graduates.

The interns have been assigned to 16 Capitol-run hospitals across the province, where they will assist in various administrative and hospital support functions.

The largest number of interns, with eight each, were assigned to Cebu Provincial Hospital (CPH)-Danao, CPH-Carcar, CPH-Bogo and Isidro C. Kintanar Memorial Hospital (ICKMH).

Seven interns each were deployed to Bantayan District Hospital and CPH-Balamban.

Meanwhile, six interns each were assigned to Malabuyoc District Hospital, Minglanilla District Hospital (MDH), Barili District Hospital, Oslob District Hospital and Badian District Hospital.

Five interns each were deployed to Tuburan District Hospital and Danao District Hospital (DDH), while four interns each were assigned to Don Jose Marquez Valdehueza Memorial Hospital (DJMVBMH) and Ramon Lopez Memorial Medical Hospital (RLMMH). Jose B. Dosado Memorial Hospital (JBDMH) received three interns.

The current deployment totals 97 interns, with 13 more applicants still being processed for placement.

They will be assigned to non-clinical support functions, including records and administrative support, laboratory and diagnostic request processing, medication and supply charging, order monitoring and follow-up, encoding of doctors’ orders, cashier assistance, training and orientation on the Integrated Hospital Operations and Management Information System (iHOMIS), as well as kitchen and other hospital support services.

Their deployment is expected to improve operational efficiency and enable doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers to devote more time to patient care.

Beyond supporting hospital operations, the internship program also provides the interns with valuable work experience and practical skills through hands-on exposure to government service in a hospital setting.

Governor Pamela Baricuatro and Capitol Piso Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan thanked DOLE Region 7, led by Regional Director Atty. Roy Buenafe, for facilitating the program, emphasizing that the initiative not only strengthens the Province’s healthcare system but also opens meaningful employment and learning opportunities for young Cebuanos. /𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶
