OSLOB, Cebu — Cebu Gov. Pamela Baricuatro experienced the province’s world-renowned whale shark watching attraction in Barangay Tan-awan, Oslob on Friday, July 3, underscoring the importance of protecting Cebu’s marine biodiversity while promoting responsible and sustainable tourism.

The visit allowed the governor to see firsthand one of Cebu’s premier tourist destinations and underline the provincial government’s commitment to balancing environmental conservation with tourism development.

Gov. Pam’s visit follows a series of initiatives aimed at improving facilities at the Tan-awan Whale Shark Watching site.

On Aug. 1, 2025, Baricuatro inspected the whale shark watching visitors center to assess the condition of the facility, which serves as the waiting area for tourists. The inspection formed part of the provincial government’s continuing efforts to upgrade tourism infrastructure across Cebu.

During that visit, she ordered the immediate replacement of dilapidated tents to improve the safety and comfort of visitors. She also directed Oslob’s local tourism office to prioritize the renovation of the facility’s comfort rooms and maintain strict sanitation standards throughout the site.

On March 5, 2026, Baricuatro returned to Tan-awan to lead the blessing and inauguration of the newly constructed comfort rooms. The upgraded facilities include shower rooms for visitors participating in whale shark encounters and are part of the province’s broader initiative to enhance tourism amenities.

“When tourists travel, one of the first things they look for are clean, safe and accessible facilities. A clean comfort room reflects how well we care for our destination and how ready we are to welcome visitors,” Baricuatro said.

The governor said improving tourism infrastructure while safeguarding Cebu’s natural resources remains a priority of the provincial government as it seeks to provide visitors with a safe, comfortable and memorable experience. /𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶, 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒔 𝒃𝒚 𝑭𝑬
