Marking her first year in office, Cebu Gov. Pamela Baricuatro reaffirmed her commitment to improving healthcare, food security and other essential public services, saying she remains focused on delivering results despite criticism and misinformation on social media.

Speaking on DyLA radio’s “Karun Sugbo” program hosted by Rico Osmeña on July 1, Gov. Baricuatro reflected on what she described as a “bittersweet” first year in public service.

“It’s bittersweet. It’s sweet kay the Cebuanos are very supportive. Bitter, in such a way, that kay there’s so much noise and fake news in social media,” the governor said.

CHALLENGES AT THE OUTSET

Gov. Baricuatro said her administration faced major challenges from the outset, as Cebu was hit by a series of calamities while geopolitical developments contributed to rising inflation that affected the province.

Despite these challenges, she said her administration has focused on improving Cebu’s healthcare system, strengthening food security through programs that help farmers extend the shelf life of their harvests and reduce reliance on middlemen, as well as addressing the province’s energy, waste management, water supply, and flooding concerns.

Amid continued attacks from online trolls, Gov. Baricuatro said she remains committed to serving the Cebuanos.

UNAFFECTED BY TROLLS

“I’m really unaffected kay what really matters are people on the ground. So far sa akong pagtuyok-tuyok sa probinsya, init kaayo ilang pagdawat nako,” the governor said.

She also thanked Cebuanos who have recognized the changes her administration has introduced during its first year. At the same time, she appealed to the public not to readily believe everything they see on social media, saying many people were trying to discredit her online.

She also encouraged Cebuanos to rely on credible sources for updates on the provincial government’s programs and initiatives.
