Sen. JV Ejercito, accompanied by Gov. Pamela Baricuatro and Capitol Piso Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan, inspected an unfinished expansion building on Friday at the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Danao City (CPH Danao), with the project expected to boost the hospital’s bid for Level II accreditation once completed.
With healthcare among the top priorities of her administration, Gov. Baricuatro sought Ejercito’s support for the province’s hospital infrastructure projects and the acquisition of new medical equipment. Ejercito immediately pledged to support the province’s requests.
The senator, principal author of the Universal Health Care Act, said expanding access to quality healthcare remains one of his key advocacies.
Dr. Jenina Canoy, the hospital’s chief, said the 787-square-meter facility, funded by the provincial government under Phase I of the project, will expand the hospital’s capacity and enable it to offer more specialized medical services.
The ground floor will house the pharmacy and its warehouse, while the second floor will contain fully equipped operating rooms and intensive care units. The third floor will provide additional wards for surgical patients.
Once operational, the new operating rooms will allow the hospital to perform orthopedic and general surgeries, laparoscopic procedures, cesarean sections and gynecological operations.
Targeted for completion in 2027, the facility will increase the hospital’s bed capacity from 100 to 250. CPH Danao currently serves nearly 200 patients daily.
The hospital caters to patients from Borbon in the north to Consolacion in the south, including residents of the Camotes Islands.
“Dako gyod siyag tabang if mahuman ni puhon,” Canoy said.
“Ang atong mga pasyente dili na kinahanglan mobiyahe sa siyudad. Ato na gyod ma-perform ang medical procedures dinhi lang sa City of Danao,” she added.
