𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹’𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀
The deployment of a new general surgeon and two anesthesiologists to the Ricardo L. Maningo Memorial Hospital is expected to expand surgical services and improve access to specialized healthcare in the Camotes Islands.
Dr. Janessa Kim Padin recently joined the Capitol-run district hospital as its newest general surgeon, working alongside Dr. Rene Borromeo, the hospital’s chief and fellow surgeon, to increase the facility’s capacity to perform surgeries closer to home.
“For an island community, timely access to surgery saves lives. More surgical capacity means fewer inter-island transfers, faster treatment and better outcomes for patients and their families,” said Capitol Piso Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan, who has been tasked by Gov. Pamela Baricuatro to oversee reforms in the province’s 16 hospitals.
Catalan said the deployment supports the governor’s drive to beef up staffing in Capitol-run hospitals and improve access to healthcare for poor patients.
With the expanded surgical team, the hospital is expected to perform more procedures in Camotes and reduce the need for patients to seek treatment in mainland Cebu.
For many residents of the island municipalities, seeking specialized treatment in Cebu City is not only costly but also consumes precious time, especially during emergencies.
Catalan also thanked the Department of Health for deploying the medical specialists and for its continued support in strengthening healthcare services in underserved communities.
