𝐃𝐀𝐍𝐀𝐎 𝐒𝐄𝐄𝐊𝐒 𝐑𝐃𝐂 𝐁𝐀𝐂𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐅𝐎𝐑 𝐁𝐈𝐆-𝐓𝐈𝐂𝐊𝐄𝐓 𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐉𝐄𝐂𝐓𝐒
DANAO CITY, Cebu — The Danao City Government has sought the backing of the Regional Development Council in Central Visayas (RDC-7) for several flagship projects that seek to spur development, improve environmental management, and reduce disaster risks.
Danao City Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III raised the proposals during the RDC-7 full council’s second-quarter meeting on Wednesday at the Danao City Civic Center. The meeting was led by Cebu Gov. Pamela Baricuatro and attended by regional directors of national agencies, business leaders, and private sector representatives.
Gov. Baricuatro, who chairs RDC-7, also delivered her first State of the Region Address, reporting on the accomplishments and ongoing initiatives of the council’s economic, social, infrastructure, environmental, and governance committees.
In his speech, Durano lauded Gov. Baricuatro for encouraging local government units to actively participate in the council and for helping open channels with national government agencies.
“This is a testament to her administration’s commitment towards good governance, opening doors of opportunities and creating networks for growth and development, enabling us, LGUs, to have an avenue to reach out to national offices, request assistance, and seek redress of our grievances,” Durano said.
Among the projects presented were:
- The Danao City Sports Complex and Convention Center, a world-class facility with an indoor arena to be built in Barangay Maslog at an estimated cost of at least P1 billion;
- A solid waste management facility that will process different types of waste and convert them into by-products for construction use;
- Two reclamation projects — a five-hectare expansion in Barangay Poblacion for commercial development and a 25-hectare reclamation project in Barangay Sabang for industrial expansion; and
- A riverbank protection project for areas affected by Typhoon Tino.
“In all these projects, we reiterate our commitment toward a safe, sustainable, and secure future for our communities,” the mayor said.
The RDC referred the proposals to concerned national government agencies for further study and appropriate action. Gov. Baricuatro, for her part, expressed support for Danao City’s development initiatives. | CAPITOL PIO
