𝐂𝐞𝐛𝐮 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐄𝐥𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲, 𝐇𝐢𝐠𝐡 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭-𝐀𝐭𝐡𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐕𝐈𝐑𝐀𝐀, 𝐏𝐚𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐚
The Cebu Provincial Government has granted cash incentives to nearly 500 public elementary and high school student-athletes who won medals in the recently concluded Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (CVIRAA) Meet and Palarong Pambansa, reinforcing its commitment to youth and sports development.
The incentives were released through the Provincial School Board, which has consistently supported Cebu’s student-athletes from the Provincial Sports Meet to regional and national competitions.
Gov. Pamela Baricuatro personally handed the incentives to 466 CVIRAA medalists and 20 Palarong Pambansa medalists during an awarding ceremony at the Department of Education (DepEd) Ecotech Pavilion in Lahug, Cebu City on June 16.
Joining the governor were Provincial Board Members Raymond Calderon, Neneth Reluya, and Mike Villamor, who also congratulated the athletes for their outstanding performance.
“You have once again made Cebu proud, not only with your medals and achievements, but also with the discipline and sportsmanship you displayed throughout the competition,” the governor said in her speech.
“More than anything, I sincerely hope that you enjoyed the experience, made new friends, and created memories that you will carry with you for a lifetime. Kay para nako, dili lang gyud ang pagdaog ang importante, but also the lessons, friendships, and character that sports help build,” she said.
CAPITOL’S ALL-OUT SUPPORT
DepEd Cebu Provincial Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Senen Priscillo Paulin thanked the Capitol for its all-out support through the Provincial School Board, chaired by the governor, beginning with the Provincial Sports Meet in Carcar City in February, the CVIRAA Meet in the City of Naga in March, and the Palarong Pambansa in Agusan del Sur in May.
“We are here because we are harvesting the fruits of inspiration given by our provincial leaders, led by Governor Pam,” Dr. Paulin said.
“We have a provincial government and a provincial governor who believe that every accomplishment of the Cebuano is worth celebrating,” he added.
Dr. Paulin said the Capitol’s strong support enabled Cebu to send 140 qualified athletes to the Palarong Pambansa as part of the Central Visayas delegation.
“In our uniforms we carry the banners of the CVIRAA, but our hearts beat for Cebu,” Dr. Paulin said.
He also revealed that the Capitol provided substantial allowances for the athletes competing in the Palaro, with the governor’s Chief of Staff, Charlton James Canoy, personally delivering the assistance to Agusan del Sur.
MEDALISTS’ INCENTIVES
Among the recipients was Junmar Davo, a Grade 10 student of the Sister’s of Mary School-Boystown in Minglanilla, who captured the gold medal in the secondary boys’ 42-kilogram division for Central Visayas.
For his achievement, Davo received a P50,000 incentive from the Capitol. Palarong Pambansa silver medalists received P25,000 each, while bronze medalists were awarded P15,000.
For the CVIRAA Meet, gold medalists received P5,000 each, silver medalists P3,000, and bronze medalists P2,000.
Coaches were also given P3,000 each in recognition of their efforts in training and guiding the student-athletes.
“Makasalig gyud mo nga ako ug ang inyong tibuok Provincial Government will continue to support athletes like you, and our youth of Cebu. Padayon ta sa pag-invest sa atong mga batan-on, because you are among our greatest hopes for the future,” the governor said. /CAPITOL PIO, Photos by YJB, ARJ
