𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗹-𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗯𝘂𝘆𝗼𝗰 𝘂𝘀𝘂𝗳𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝟭 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘂𝗽𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗲
The Cebu Provincial Government on Monday signed a Deed of Usufruct with the Malabuyoc Municipal Government, paving the way for the upgrade of the Mariano Jesus Cuenco Memorial Hospital from an infirmary into a Level 1 hospital.
Gov. Pamela Baricuatro led the signing ceremony on Monday, June 15 as part of the province’s efforts to improve public healthcare services, particularly in southwest Cebu.
The planned upgrade is expected to strengthen access to healthcare not only for Malabuyoc residents but also for neighboring towns.
“Naa ko diri to see unsa akong matabang dinhi ug kumusta inyong kahimtang diri. Dili ma-ratol, dili ma-panic kay bag-o na ang liderato sa Kapitolyo. Whenever you see me, always remember that. I’m here to serve and help, dili para mangasaba ninyo,” Gov. Baricuatro told hospital staff during her visit.
Malabuyoc Mayor Erlinda Piedad expressed gratitude to the provincial government’s support for prioritizing healthcare services.
“Kami, Gov, dako kaayo namong garbo nga ma-prioritize nato ang health. Dili lang sa lungsod sa Malabuyoc, apan apil usab ang among mga silingang lungsod,” Piedad said.
Under the usufruct agreement, the Capitol is granted the right to use, develop, and manage the hospital property, while ownership of the land remains with the Malabuyoc local government.
The agreement clears the way for the facility’s transition from an infirmary offering emergency care, outpatient consultations, and maternity services into a fully licensed Level 1 general hospital.
Once upgraded, the hospital will be capable of providing a wider range of services, including surgical procedures, secondary clinical laboratory services, and blood station facilities.
Joining Gov. Baricuatro in the signing ceremony were Mayor Piedad, Capitol Piso Health Consultant Dr. Nikki Catalan, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Sheila Faciol and Provincial Engineer Hector Jamora.
