Consolacion town became the first local government unit in Cebu to receive school supplies under the Cebu Provincial Government’s education assistance program, with Gov. Pamela Baricuatro leading the ceremonial distribution on Wednesday, June 10.
Held at Consolacion Central School, the event gathered local officials, Department of Education (DepEd) representatives, teachers, parents, and students. Learners also presented cultural performances during the program. Also present at the event was Sixth District Board Member Alfred Francis Ouano.
A total of 1,744 learners from Kindergarten to Grade 3 received school supplies, including school bags, notebooks, pencils, rulers, erasers, tumblers, crayons, pad paper, and other classroom essentials.
In her message, Gov. Baricuatro urged students to study diligently, listen to their teachers, and remain curious in their learning. She also commended the vital role of teachers in shaping the province’s future, describing them as Cebu’s “first line of defense.”
Schools Division Superintendent Senen P. Paulin thanked Baricuatro, who chairs the Provincial School Board (PSB), for helping facilitate education-related programs and services.
Consolacion Mayor Teresa “Nene” Alegado, meanwhile, said the municipality has around 35,000 students and lauded teachers for their continued commitment to quality education.

Christopher Baricuatro, Public Services Officer and PSB focal person, said the activity served as the ceremonial launch of a provincewide distribution program that will eventually cover all K to 12 learners in Cebu.
“Those present today are Kindergarten to Grade 3 learners, but the beneficiaries of the program will include all K to 12 students,” he said.
The initiative is expected to benefit at least 600,000 students across the province.
The PSB focal person said the provincial government is prioritizing the completion of the distribution in Consolacion before rolling out the program to other municipalities and component cities.
Localities near the Capitol, he added, may directly claim their allocated supplies from the provincial government. He also said the allocation of school supplies for each school would depend on enrollment figures, noting that enrollment in some schools is still ongoing.
Moreover, Supreme Parents-Teachers Association (SPTA) President Tersita Custodia and school principal Gina J. Molejon expressed gratitude to Gov. Baricuatro for the initiative, saying the assistance would help ease the burden on families and inspire students to study harder.
