𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒: The 17th Sangguniang Panlalawigan, presided over by Vice Governor Glenn Anthony Soco, unanimously approved a resolution authorizing the release of P10 million in financial assistance to General Santos City following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck the city on the morning of June 8, 2026, creating an urgent need for humanitarian aid.
Authored by Provincial Board Member Red Duterte, the resolution was certified as urgent by Gov. Pam Baricuatro, who wrote a letter to the Sanggunian requesting its immediate passage. The measure allows the Cebu Provincial Government to extend financial assistance to General Santos City.
In pushing for the approval of the resolution, PB Duterte said that General Santos City was not the only area affected by the powerful earthquake. He noted the need to identify other local government units impacted by the calamity so that immediate assistance could likewise be provided to them.
