The Cebu Provincial Government is set to undertake major infrastructure upgrades at Ricardo L. Maningo Memorial Hospital (RLMMH) in San Francisco, Camotes as part of Gov. Pam Baricuatro’s continuing efforts to improve healthcare services in island communities.
The projects, which include the repair and expansion of the hospital’s Emergency Room and the construction of a Sewage Treatment Plant, are expected to enhance the facility’s capacity to provide safer, more efficient, and more comfortable healthcare services for residents of the Camotes Islands.
Capitol consultant on public health Dr. Nikki Catalan, together with representatives from the Provincial Engineering Office and Chief of Hospital Dr. Rene Borromeo, conducted a pre-construction conference for the two projects on June 4.
“These investments are part of our continuing efforts to improve healthcare facilities and ensure safer, more comfortable, and more efficient services for patients in Camotes,” said Dr. Catalan in a social media post.
The infrastructure developments form part of the Capitol’s healthcare modernization program aimed at improving access to quality medical services, particularly in geographically isolated areas, under Gov. Baricuatro’s commitment that no Cebuano is left behind.
CAPITOL’S FIRST BREAST CLINIC
During her visit, Dr. Catalan also inspected the hospital’s newly established Breast Clinic, a flagship initiative of Dr. Borromeo that was inaugurated last month.
The facility is the first dedicated Breast Clinic among the Capitol’s four provincial hospitals and 12 district hospitals.
The clinic provides services for the early detection, evaluation, treatment, and referral of patients with breast conditions, bringing specialized breast healthcare closer to women in Camotes who would otherwise need to travel to mainland Cebu for consultation and treatment.
ADEQUATELY STOCKED PHARMACY
Dr. Catalan likewise conducted a walkthrough of the hospital’s Emergency Room and Pharmacy, where she noted ongoing improvements in service delivery.
The pharmacy remains adequately stocked and continues to dispense medicines listed under the Philippine National Formulary, helping ensure the availability of essential medications for patients.
She also commended Dr. Borromeo and the entire RLMMH team for their dedication to public service and their continuing efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the island municipality.
