The Cebu Provincial Government has earmarked P50 million to help address the water supply problems hounding the northern Cebu town of Borbon.
Gov. Pam Baricuatro announced the allocation on Thursday, June 4, during the distribution of calamity assistance to earthquake-affected families.
The governor said access to potable water remains among the Provincial Government’s priority infrastructure concerns, stressing that basic services must be addressed to spur local development.
“Mayor, gwapo kaayo imong dream nga you want a better Borbon — a more progressive Borbon. That is also my dream for you. But first and foremost, we have to look at the basic infrastructure nga gitrabaho sa probinsya karon. First, water. Kana gyud ang basic infrastructure which we are helping you. The Province is allocating P50 million for this. Initial lang na, Mayor, and as we go along, just let me know and we will look into that,” the governor said.
The financial assistance will support Borbon’s efforts to rehabilitate and improve its water system following service disruptions that surfaced after the termination of the municipality’s joint venture agreement with a private water service provider in January 2026.
The local government is currently conducting system assessments, repair works, and intensified water quality monitoring to restore stable water services to residents.

Borbon Mayor Nico Dotillos, who had earlier cited the high cost of rehabilitation as a major obstacle to resolving the town’s water woes, welcomed the provincial government’s assistance.
“Si Governor Pam just recently iya kong giingnan nga iya tang tabangan sa problema nato sa tubig. I know for sure dako gyud ni nga tabang. Wa man gyuy perpekto nga gobyerno — ang importante lang gyud siguro nga naa tay buhaton,” Dotillos said.
𝗣𝟭𝟯 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗧𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗴𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀
Gov. Baricuatro also pledged P13 million in financial assistance to the municipality of Tabogon for infrastructure rehabilitation projects.
Of the amount, P8 million will be used for the repair and improvement of the Tabogon Sports Complex, while P5 million will fund the rehabilitation of the town’s Rural Health Unit (RHU).
“Ang inyohang RHU, ang inyahang infirmary kinahanglan kaayog tabang,” the governor said.
