SAMBOAN, Cebu — The Cebu Provincial Government is strengthening safety standards in eco-tourism destinations through specialized rescue training for local tourism frontliners as part of its broader effort to integrate tourism development with disaster preparedness and public safety.
As part of this initiative, local tourism guides and frontliners in this municipality underwent a realistic rescue simulation at the scenic Dao Falls on Thursday, June 4, as the Swift Water Safety Search and Rescue Training entered its third day.
The simulation exercise (SIMEX) allowed participants to apply the knowledge and skills they acquired during the training, which will run until June 5, in a controlled yet realistic environment, preparing them to respond effectively to emergencies in rivers, waterfalls, and other water-based tourist attractions in the municipality.
Spearheaded by the Provincial Tourism Office, the training is done in coordination with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) and the Municipality of Samboan, led by Mayor Tito Calderon.
During the exercise, participants practiced swift water rescue operations, emergency response procedures, teamwork, communication, and incident management under simulated field conditions. The activity was designed to replicate real-life scenarios that tourism personnel may encounter while assisting visitors in outdoor destinations.
Through programs such as the Swift Water Safety Search and Rescue Training, the Cebu Provincial Government continues to promote safe, responsible, and resilient tourism while empowering local communities to protect lives and preserve the appeal of Cebu’s natural destinations.
