Cebu Governor Pamela Baricuatro expressed her full support for the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Central Visayas during the opening of the WorldSkills Philippines Central Visayas – Regional Skills Olympics 2026 on Tuesday, June 2.
In her keynote address, Governor Baricuatro emphasized the vital role of education and skills development in empowering the youth and driving economic growth.
“I am in full support of this event that celebrates not only skills and talent but also the hard work, discipline, and determination of our young Cebuanos. As governor, I firmly believe that education and skills development are among the strongest tools we have to fight poverty, create opportunities, and strengthen our economy. This is why our administration continues to support programs that prepare the youth for meaningful employment, innovation, and entrepreneurship,” Governor Baricuatro said.
The Regional Skills Olympics, organized by TESDA Central Visayas in partnership with various industry stakeholders, serves as a platform to showcase and recognize the technical excellence, innovation, and competitiveness of young skilled workers, trainees, and graduates of technical-vocational institutions and training centers across the region.
The competition also aims to identify and prepare outstanding competitors who may represent Central Visayas and the Philippines in future national and international skills competitions, including the Philippine National Skills Competition (PNSC), ASEAN Skills Competition, and the WorldSkills Competition.
This year’s competition features a wide range of skills areas, including Artificial Intelligence, Automobile Technology, Bakery, Cabinet Making, Cooking, Electrical Installation, Electronics, Fashion Technology, Graphic Design Technology, ICT Network Infrastructure, Industrial Control, IT Network Systems Administration, Mechatronics, Restaurant Service, Software Applications Development, Web Technologies, and Welding.
Governor Baricuatro reaffirmed the Provincial Government of Cebu’s commitment to supporting initiatives that equip the youth with industry-relevant skills and open pathways to greater opportunities and sustainable livelihoods.
