Gov. Pamela Baricuatro led the inauguration and turnover of several infrastructure and development projects in Madridejos on Friday, highlighted by the opening of a newly constructed three-story, six-classroom building at Madridejos Community College (MCC), along with the turnover of 1,000 armchairs, 30 computer sets, and 20 laptops to support the growing student population.

The Madridejos City College (MCC) building is expected to significantly improve learning conditions in the island town, providing upgraded classrooms and learning resources for students. The turnover of additional school equipment further aims to enhance access to quality education in the municipality.

Madridejos Mayor Romeo A. Villaceran, along with school officials, faculty, and students, welcomed the developments, describing the projects as a boost to local education and tourism infrastructure.

In her message, Gov. Baricuatro emphasized the value of continued investment in education and development.

“Projects like this remind us that progress happens when we continue working together toward one goal — giving our students better opportunities and a better place to learn,” she said.

Joining the governor during the turnover ceremonies were Fourth District Rep. Sun Shimura as well as Board Members Nelson Mondigo and Kerrie Keane Shimura. First District Board Member Lakambini Reluya also attended the events.

Gov. Baricuatro also led the inauguration of the Madridejos Tourist Rest Area (TRA), designed as a one-stop facility for visitors to improve tourism services in the municipality.

Meanwhile, a Service Caravan for Senior Citizens was held at the Old Municipal Gym, alongside the official launch of the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) Center at the new Madridejos Municipal Hall.

Around 300 senior citizens benefited from free government and medical services provided during the one-day caravan. The newly launched center is expected to serve as a hub for programs and activities focused on health, welfare, livelihood, recreation, and social engagement for elderly residents.

“It feels good nga naa tag maadtuan nga di ta mobayad,” Baricuatro said, highlighting the importance of accessible services for seniors.

NCSC Regional Director Jocelyn TaboTabo said the center was envisioned as a second home for senior citizens.

Villaceran, for his part, called for continued compassion and support for vulnerable sectors, emphasizing the importance of responsive public service.

The series of activities are part of the provincial government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen education, tourism, healthcare, and social welfare services across Cebu.
