The Capitol-run bus terminals have upgraded their services and security measures to better serve commuters as passenger volume is expected to increase with the opening of classes for the first semester in June.

The improvements form part of efforts to ensure safer and more efficient public transport operations during the annual Balik Eskwela season, particularly for students arriving from different parts of Cebu and neighboring provinces.

Ahmed Cuizon, administrator of the Capitol-run Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) and Cebu North Bus Terminal (CNBT), said terminal personnel are already preparing to assist students, especially incoming freshmen who may be unfamiliar with the city.

“We are of course strengthening our help desk, so that if there are questions, especially from incoming freshmen who may not know their way around the city, our personnel will be ready to help them,” Cuizon said during a news forum on Tuesday, May 26.

To strengthen security and improve monitoring, additional closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras are also being installed at both terminals to monitor passenger traffic and activities and help deter illegal acts.

At the CSBT, the number of CCTV units has increased from 16 to 24, while at the CNBT, units have risen from 10 to 16.

Cuizon said the expanded monitoring system has already proven beneficial, helping deter theft and assisting authorities in locating and returning lost belongings.

The South Bus Terminal currently records an average daily foot traffic of around 7,000 passengers during weekdays, increasing to about 11,000 on weekends.

Meanwhile, the North Bus Terminal logs around 2,000 passengers on weekdays and approximately 3,100 during weekends.

Cuizon said they expect passenger numbers to rise further once schools and universities in Metro Cebu officially resume classes. /𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶, 𝑭𝒊𝒍𝒆 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒔
