As the Cebu Provincial Government gears up for the upcoming China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) 2026, two members of the 17th Sangguniang Panlalawigan delivered privilege speeches during their regular session on Monday, May 26, highlighting the significance of the international exposition for the Province of Cebu.

On May 20, Gov. Pam Baricuatro, on behalf of the Province of Cebu, signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM) for the province’s participation in the 23rd China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO), scheduled on September 17 to 21, 2026, in Nanning, China, with the Philippines serving as the Country of Honor. The ceremonial MOA signing marked Cebu’s official participation as the country’s designated “Province of Charm” for the international event.

Cebu First District Provincial Board (PB) Member Lakambini Reluya said the event presents economic opportunities for Cebuano entrepreneurs, particularly micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). She described Cebu’s participation as more than just a platform for cultural promotion, citing its potential to strengthen Cebu’s economic presence and expand market access for local products and businesses.

“Not merely a cultural event—it is a market,” said Reluya, who chairs the PB Committee on Trade and Industry.

PB Member Malcolm Sanchez of the Lone District of Mandaue, meanwhile, emphasized Cebu’s growing role in international trade and investment as he cited Resolution No. 1633, which authorized Gov. Baricuatro to sign the MOA with CITEM for the 23rd CAEXPO 2026.

Sanchez, chairman of the PB Committee on Foreign Relations, said Cebu is prepared to strengthen partnerships and showcase its capabilities on the global stage.

“Cebu is ready to engage, to collaborate, and to lead on the global stage,” he said, adding that the expo will support the province’s broader long-term economic direction. /𝑪𝑨𝑷𝑰𝑻𝑶𝑳 𝑷𝑰𝑶, 𝑷𝒉𝒐𝒕𝒐𝒔 𝒃𝒚 𝒀𝑱𝑩
