The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), in partnership with the Provincial Youth Development Office (PYDO), successfully facilitated the ABTIK Leaders Camp 2026 held at Coco Seaview Beach Resort in Asturias from May 17 to 20, 2026.

The camp gathered three youth leaders from each LGU across Cebu Province, including representatives from the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) and delegates from student-led,community-based, and faith-based sectors. Personnel from the National Youth Commission (NYC) also participated as resource speakers.

The ABTIK Leaders Camp is a leadership formation program aimed at developing the next generation of Cebuano youth leaders. Anchored on the vision of producing youth who are Active, Brilliant, Thriving, and Informed, the program supports Governor Pam Baricuatro’s 8-Point Youth Development Agenda.

This three-day camp served as a platform for young leaders across the province to better understand their vital roles in leadership, community development, and public service. It also encouraged participants to identify issues within their localities and formulate practical, community-based solutions.

Recognizing the vital role of youth in disaster preparedness and resilience, the PDRRMO Disaster Preparedness Information and Training (DPIT) team conducted a Basic Orientation on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) to equip participants with knowledge on the province’s current disaster risk situation, legal frameworks, and fundamental DRRM concepts and terminologies necessary for meaningful participation in DRRM systems, community preparedness, and emergency response.

To further strengthen their capabilities, participants also underwent technical training on Basic Life Support (BLS), Standard First Aid Training (SFAT), and Basic Rope Rescue Training, facilitated by PDRRMO Emergency Response Search and Rescue personnel.

The initiative underscores the crucial role of young people in building disaster-resilient communities, especially following the series of disasters that affected Cebu last year. By empowering the youth with knowledge and enhancing their capabilities, the province continues to cultivate a generation that is informed, proactive, and actively engaged in advancing DRRM efforts within their communities.

Meanwhile, Governor Pam Baricuatro also graced the event and delivered a short message encouraging the youth to serve with courage, integrity, and humility.
